Filming Update.
Bit late, but better late than never.
We originally intened to film the rest of our work last wednesday, however our main actor was unwell, and the weather was awful, so instead we had to settle for filiming the titles.
The titles didn't come out like we'd hoped, so these have to be reshot which is going to happen tomorrow, and we are going to film the rest this Wednesday, a week later than we'd planned.

AS Media evaluation. Ewan Tom and Matt
We were inspired by dream horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, and films that use creepy kids, like the grudge and the ring. We put the ideas together and came up with a teenagers little sister, who was tragically killed, haunts the teenagers dreams. It's also a little convenient as Ewan has a five year old sister who is a little creepy.
Our production is still going, but it's going smoothly (mostly) with an even balance of work being shared.
The typical horror conventions are as follows: We have the cliche creepy ghost girl, a good looking teenager victim, and a spooky graveyard setting. While researching we watched ghost films like, the Others, the Ring, and the Orphanage. We have one kind of challenge of conventions in that our victim is not female. Which is usually the norm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qttT_10QGQ0 An example of the creepy ghost girl feel we were going for, from The Ring.
According to our IMBD research, which showed that films like the Ring and the Grudge have a majority audience of 16 to 23 year old males, this is our target audience. I think this group is associated with horror films because they enjoy being scared, or thrilled with their friends. We will use this information to take whats good about the films we researched, and include them, or try to include them in our own work.
This genre represents children as creepy and scary, and teenagers as quite innocent, which is quite a flip-around, and challenges stereotypes. We mostly emphasized these things via costume and make up. Dave is dressed normally, and Ellie made to look sinister and ghostly.
Our film was a good example of targeting our specific audience (16-25) because our film showed similar conventions of ghost films targeting a similar audience like The Ring. This target audience is important because it includes the ages which are most popular with horror films which gives our film more of a chance to appeal to them, which we think we managed to do.
The evaluation research showed similar age ranges for target audiences e.g "15 - 21" these are not far off of our intended target audience which means our film has achieved the desired target audience.
The actor 'Dave' is a 17 year old which worked with our target audience as they can relate more to the actor. The music was very modern for horror films the dark and bass like sounds to invoke fear whilst they watch the film which shows a much younger appeal because of the music, close to our film.
The generic conventions also follow the appeal to our target audience as they use similar features such as flashbacks and actors of similar target audience age.
The mise en scene costume and make up also follows similar age group to our target audience. Dave's clothes use trends that are in modern teenagers and above to around 25 today, showing more of a relation to the audience.
To distribute our media film there are a variety of way we can do this in order for a production company to access our film. A good way is via the internet and youtube, finding production companies and emailing or posting them our film. Or we could put our film on youtube for it to be accessed by anyone who goes on youtube. which could be a production company scout. Another great way of trying to distribute our is sending our film to independent british film festivals for production companies.
I think our film would be appealing to production companies as our 2 minute snippet uses great shots and directing with a convincing story-line.
From this film project I think it's safe to say we have definately become much, much better with cameras and tripods, and I'm proud of variety in the shots and movements we used.On top of getting better with a camera, we also became more profficient with Garageband and the movie making software. (the garageband took a while to get the hang of) As two out of three of us had never really used a mac before, we had a good oppurtunity to learn, and learn we did. Mostly the technology helped our creativity, but sometimes we felt a little constrained with the limited amount of titles and sounds on the movie maker.
From the prelimiary task to know, we have definately learnt many more skills on the editing software and with the camera. We have become more aware of the importance of contiuation, and how much more proffesional a shot can look of framed correctly. Looking back now, the only thing we would change is that we would give ourselves more time, as we left it a little last minute.
Contribution:
Matt: At the planning stage, initially me and Ewan came up with the idea, and after talking through and building our idea together, Ewan wrote the script whilst I did the story board afterwards. Me and ewan both secured permission for filming at the graveyard film. I fount our leading actor, David Harris. And soughted the planning sheets for location and Actor profiles. I attended all five filming sessions, and took Joint main duties with Ewan in editing.
Ewan: At the planning stage, myself and Matt came up with the initial concept. I wrote the script while Matt drafted and completed the story board. Myself and Matt secured permission to film in the graveyard, and I found Ellie for the part of the monster.I also did the makeup and attended all five filming sessions with Matt. When it came to editing, I took a main role with Matt. I also had an input in the soundtrack.
Tom: I attended one of the five filming sessions, and did the majority of the soundtrack. Sadly, I was part of another group during the planning stage, so I did nothing for Matt and Ewan during this time.

First edited shots
These are the first few edited shots of our project. It's basically the flashback where Ellie is hit by a car. We're still trying to end it better, and the shots here will be cut into by Dave running through the graveyard, so it won't appear like this in the final one.
We plan to shoot the rest of our project sometime between next Monday and Friday.

Booked a camera out
and we plan to film this Sunday (the 13th of February)
We aren't filming the whole thing, just the scene in which Ellie (the ghost girl) is hit by the car in a flashback sequence . Obviously for reasons of safety Ellie and the car won't make any contact, but will edit it in such a way that we simply suggest that she has been hit.
